Malaysia's Trade Performance
Malaysia opened 2026 with record January trade. Total trade rose 12.6% to RM272.37 billion, exports climbed 19.6% to RM146.87 billion, imports increased 5.3% to RM125.50 billion, and the surplus surged to RM21.37 billion.
E&E products drove growth, accounting for 48% of exports and jumping 39.5%, reinforcing Malaysia’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain. The US, EU and Hong Kong saw strong gains, while China remained central. Demand for machinery and intermediate goods stayed firm, signalling sustained industrial momentum.
